Storytelling
food for thought ...

While food keeps our body fueled and running, thinking about where and what to eat becomes almost a daily chore when we lack an effective searching tool.

In order to search and gather key information before picking a restaurant, and to book a place, users are often required to juggle between different platforms. Information are scattered everywhere with the current search tools and food review platforms. Additionally, with the existing food review platforms, reviews are mostly restaurant-focused; hence it becomes difficult to see ratings for a specific dish.

In light of the above, this project aims to create an all-in-1 platform that helps users make dining decision more effectively and effortlessly. User-centred features are implemented to simplify the search process and enhance the general user flow.

Project Framework . double-diamond process

Design process . Exploring the potentials and desirability

Primary Research: User Interviews Insights clustering

More Insights: Secondary Research & Usability Testing

Strategic Design Thinking

Search Guide Cards

rationale:
a lot of the time we do not even know where to begin with the searching

strategic tool:
intuitive guide with 4 common scenarios
i. Comfort Food
ii. Work & Study
iii. Social
iv. Surprise Me

goal:
decision-making made easy
i. Comfort Food - by personal appetitie / mood

rationale:

sometimes we overlook the emotional impact food bring us; and put practicality(with the easiest / closest options) before the ones which can potentially benefit our bodies physically and emotionally

strategic tool:
choose by appetite / mood

goal:

choose food specific to the body state and needs rather than just to fill the tummy; eventually for boosting the mood and energy; maintain a healthy body in the long run
ii. Work & Study - purpose driven
facilities/atmosphere > food

rationale:
when we need to find a place to work / study; more often than not things like good wifi and a quiet atmosphere are more crucial than the food the shop offers

strategic tool:
search by tags to personalize the criteria needed. show vacancy level to determine the available seats and loudness filter by location

goal:
show nearest options with all criteria met
iii. Social - planning a date / group gathering

rationale:
when it comes to a group gathering, from searching for the available options, sharing with friends to pick one that everyone agrees on, to finally deciding and book a table - the process could be time-consuming and exhausting

strategic tool:
flow: all-in-1

search by top _____ recommendations location filter
show top results
send share link

Client's endorsement

"It's really impressive with the amount of time they spent doing all the work to develop the final prototype. I really enjoy the overall design, I think it fits in with what we were trying to achieve. Natalie and Elaine's design is a very radical departure from what we had. The choices of colour are awesome, I'm really happy to see that there's a different take on what we could do. All the research that they've done is just a bigger validation of their skills, and to the demand of the market." - Jason Lee, Founder of COB

"The amount of work put into the project is evident with all the improvements and changes from the first MVP to the final one. Thank you for validating the users and pain points which helped us greatly to identify what features we should prioritise in our development. Well done!"- Azwin Lam, Founder of COB
